Prospectus 2007
I. INTRODUCTION FROM HEADMASTER
May I wish you a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Beechen Cliff School. If, however, you have received this prospectus through the post, I do hope that you will come and see what the School has to offer your son.
Our overall objective is to provide the best possible education for each pupil, to prepare each pupil for adulthood and to set the highest possible standards in all areas of School life: academic, sporting and beyond. The ethos of the School is established through an atmosphere which is well disciplined, calm, happy and scholarly.
We set great store by our moral standards and values: we insist on discipline, good manners, uniform, respect for others and their property and courtesy towards staff and fellow pupils. These are concepts which do not change with time and which enable us to build a secure and harmonious community.
However, many aspects of our world are changing rapidly (Information and Communications Technology being one example among many) and so another of our objectives is to ensure that our pupils will thrive in the years ahead and take full advantage of the opportunities that this new century will offer. Teaching and learning in the classroom will always have top priority but the School has a vibrant life beyond the academic, with outstanding opportunities in sport, music, drama, public speaking, art and so forth.
We hear a good deal about change in education and this is right. The world is undergoing rapid change - the influence of Information and Communications Technology being one example among many - and Beechen Cliff pupils will be well equipped to thrive in the years ahead. We hear rather less, sadly, about those things which do not change - the need for hard work, self-discipline, good manners, concern for others and so forth. These are values which underpin our work.
We welcome pupils of all abilities who seek to work hard, fulfil their potential in the broadest terms and contribute to the life of the School.
The School holds a Prospective Parents' Evening early in the Autumn term followed by an Open Day. We also encourage you to come for an informal visit when you and your son can see the School operating on a normal day. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity or if you have any further enquiry.
