Breakfast

Open every morning for all pupils and students in the Refectory from 8.00am to 8.25am. Serving delicious, nutritious meals including full English breakfast, bacon sandwiches, baguettes, bagels and drinks. Why not come and join us?

Library club

Our Library is open every day for pupils and students to read, undertake homework and study. Beechen Cliff Library offers a ‘safe’ place for pupils to study, do their homework, use the internet or simply unwind and read a good book.
Open from 8.00am until 2.30pm and 3.30pm – 4.00pm Monday to Friday

Art Club

A great opportunity to learn new skills and techniques. Come along and join us!

Board Games Club

These puzzles support the development and co-ordination of a wealth of skills, such as lateral thinking, numeracy and literacy, spatial awareness, visual perception, fine motor skills, problem solving and much more. Year groups below are invited to come along with their lunch and join Mrs Salmon in the English Block:

Climbing Wall Club

Climbing club is open to beginners and experienced climbers. We use the wall, and when possible go further afield and climb or abseil outdoors. There is a fee of £20.00 for the upkeep of equipment and all pupils have to return a signed permission slip before taking part.

Christian Union

Christian Union is open to all pupils in Years 8-11 who would like to explore a variety of issues and have a place to discuss their ideas about anything. An opportunity to spend time discussing some of life’s big questions in an informal and friendly setting. Open to everyone regardless of how you feel about religion.

Code Breaking Club

Open to all Years. If you want to learn more about all sorts of ciphers and codes, then come along! We will explore a range of code-breaking techniques and take part in the National Cipher Challenge. This Club starts running from October.

Computer Programming Club

Pupils and students in all years are invited to join Mrs James and Mr Reeves on Friday afternoons from 3.30pm – 4.30pm in C1. Come along if you would like to learn how to programme in a range of programming languages or build your own games and websites. No experience necessary – everyone welcome.

Sixth Form Debating Club (Years 12–13)

This session will, primarily, be used to coach students who would like to take part in a Debating Competition. We are currently working towards the following competitions: Oxford University Schools’ Debating, Cambridge University Schools’ Debating and The English Speaking Union Mace Competition. Anyone who would like to take part is very welcome. If you would like to learn debating skills but not at competition level, still come along and talk to us as we have many more ideas for Debating and Public Speaking opportunities at Beechen Cliff this year.

Darts Club

A Lunchtime club aimed at improving hand to eye co-ordination, mental arithmetic and numerical confidence through the medium of darts.

Food Club

This club meets on occasional Thursdays throughout term times. Activities will often relate to seasonal food and festivities e.g.Halloween,Christmas and Easter.  Students will be given

French Film Club

Pupils will have the opportunity to watch a French film with English subtitles so as to improve their knowledge of both French culture and the language and the arts as well as improve their pronunciation. This is particularly useful for those pupils studying GCSE French as an effortless way of improving your listening skills in preparation for the exams.

Latin Club

A mixture of Latin and Ancient History. You will be working towards a Level 1 certificate from Cambridge. School Terms 1 and 2 – for existing members. But new recruits are welcome to start in January (Term 3).

Library Book Club

We meet on the last Monday of each month to discuss our chosen book and to select the next. The aim is to challenge you with text you might otherwise ignore.

Maths Challenge – runs Terms 2 – 6

For all interested Year 7 boys, an opportunity to work on their mathematical problem solving skills. We will try our hand at individual and team challenges such as crossnumbers and relay questions which require quick thinking and good team work skills.  This will start in Term 2 )

Maths for Sixth Form students

Sessions for all 6th Form students requiring help or support with Maths are invited to join Mr Gill in either M4 or M5 on Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm – 4.30pm.

Concert Band runs all Year. This is open to all woodwind, brass and percussion players of any ability in Years 7 and Sixth Form. The repertoire ranges from original works through to popular arrangements. This is the biggest school ensemble and it is usually the headline act at the School Concert!
Year 7 and Sixth Form on Tuesday afternoons 3.30pm – 4.15pm in the Recital Room with Mr Calvert.

This is open to all woodwind, brass and percussion players of any ability throughout the School. The repertoire ranges from original works through to popular arrangements. This is the biggest school ensemble and it is usually the headline act at the School Concert

Music – Folk Group – run Terms 1 – 6
Mrs Nourse invites all string players, guitarists, accordionists, whistle players etc. of any ability in all years to join the Folk Group on Thursday afternoons. This dynamic group is in demand both at school and playing at events in the wider community.

Music – Year 7 Orchestra

This ensemble is for Year 7 musicians of any ability from beginning through to advanced. It is a good opportunity for new pupils to get involved in the musical life of the School. The repertoire ranges from classical to pop with a focus on improving ensemble skills. This is held on Monday lunchtime 12.15pm – 12.45pm in the Music Block with Mr Calvert.

Music – Rock Choir

Focusing on music promoted by pupils. All pupils and students are invited to join us.

Music – String Ensemble

This ensemble mainly focuses on classical arrangements but has also performed some more modern music and is open to all string players who are Grade 1 and above. In recent years, some of our pupils and students have written music for the group to great acclaim. The group performs at the annual School Concert. The ensemble welcomes all years to play every Wednesday throughout Terms 1- 6, after school 3.30pm – 4.15pm in the Music Block with Mrs Nourse.

Photography Club

This club is open to all year groups for fun. Pupils will need their own cameras, but anything will do from a phone camera to full DSLR if they have one. Pupils will learn about taking pictures and using Photoshop to enhance them. There is an opportunity to learn how to produce a picture using traditional darkroom techniques as well, but as this process can be costly, pupils would be asked to make a small contribution if they wish to try this

Pistol and Rifle Air Gun Club

Pupils will be invited by the Headmaster to partake in this activity. Year 7 pupils who have expressed an interest in shooting are invited to two specified ‘slots’ in the Autumn Terms following the return of a reply slip. Pupils are introduced to pistols and rifles (.22 and .177).  These sessions end at the end of Winter Term, when we then move to rifle shooting and clay pigeon trips.

Radio Controlled Club

Open to All Years. 4X4 in schools is a national event we enter each year where we compete against other schools to design and build a Radio Controlled car to drive around an assault course. The team will find sponsors, create a brand, document progress, design using CAD, 3D print parts, write a portfolio, and a 10 minute presentation to be judged by Jaguar Land Rover.

Rugby Training – Runs Terms 1 – 2

Aimed at getting boys to a level that they can participate in competitive matches against other House teams and other schools, in which there will be contact, e.g. tackling, rucking, mauling and scrummaging. We hope to be able to run three teams of varying ability. Requires rugby kit, gum shields and boots. Club will start to finishing earlier as light fades.

Warhammer Club

All years are invited to join Mr Saunders on Tuesday afternoons 3.30pm to 5.00pm in English Block. Inviting members new and old – we have plenty of miniatures and scenery, so do try and come along. Everyone welcome!
