The Sixth Form
OPEN EVENINGS
Entrance into Beechen Cliff Sixth Form - September 2009
Two Meetings for Prospective Sixth Formers and their Parents/Carers will be held in November 2008. Both start at 7.00 p.m.
The first meeting will take in the Hall in the Main School. It will be a plenary session and the aim will be to give you an opportunity to find out about what our Sixth Form has to offer. There will, for example, be short talks on our Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced level programmes, the one year course and the International Baccalaureate (IB). We shall address the importance of choosing an appropriate combination of subjects, looking forward to University, Sixth Form life in general and the wide range of extra-curricular activities which are offered.
We hold this plenary session twice purely due to the large number of interested students in Beechen Cliff Sixth Form. The second session, which will be held on 12 November, is reserved for all pupils currently at other Schools, with our own pupils being invited to the first meeting on 10 November. If, however, it is impossible for you to attend the evening allocated, but you are able to attend the other evening, please do so!
At the second meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, 18 November, specialist subject teachers will be on hand in different rooms throughout the School to give short talks on their particular courses and to answer your questions. It is planned that each subject teacher will give four short presentations, each lasting for about twenty minutes, and so you will have the opportunity to find out in some detail about any four of the subjects in which your son/daughter has an interest. I realise that at this stage many Year 11 pupils will be undecided about what they want to study in the Sixth Form and, therefore, at the end of the evening you will have an opportunity to talk to any of the subject teachers whose presentations you were unable to attend. I will give out more information about the second meeting at the first meeting!
