4 Students received extra praise and received a Trophy, Sponsor by HSBC South West.
These students were:
Award For Outstanding Effort, Dedication And Personal Development
Aaron White was often prone to outbursts of frustration. Over the two years that he has been part of Skill Force he has learnt to channel these emotions into his work and his sports and has been applied to both his Skill Force and normal school sessions. He has really thrown himself into Skill Force and has conquered all the challenges that we have set him – he should be proud of his achievements.
Award for Outstanding Attendance
Aaron White did not miss a session over the 2 year programme.
Award for Outstanding Achievement through the D of E Bronze
Tom Drake - while not being a natural “Ray Mears” really got involved and developed himself over the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award – he pushed himself to his limit and developed his skills.
Outstanding Contribution to their SkillForce Group
Anthony Jack has really developed over the past two years with Skill Force, he is by nature a quiet individual but his confidence has grown and he is now a valued member of the group. While not a natural sportsman – on the course we have learnt to admire his unique football style and he has conquered his fear of heights!

Recent Adventures with Beechen Cliff
Yr 11 Group
It’s all been happening within Skill Force recently, firstly I would personally like to thank and congratulate the following students: Josh Cox, Luke Bell, Jordan Bone, Thomas Drake, Jonathan Gomes, Luke Hawkes, Anthony Jack, Nathan Simmonds, George Smith, Aaron White and Jake Bell (Culverhay). The above students are the first year group to complete the 2 year SkillForce program. I wish you all the best for the future. For the hard work and excellent attendance many of them have shown throughout the program the boys part funded a paintball trip alongside the Yr 10 group who were gathering research for there own Wider Key Skill. It was a really fun and muddy day with everyone collecting bruises and giving some out to a local publishing company!
The Yr 11 boys achievements will be recognised at the SkillForce Awards Evening on Wed 18th June 08 at the Guildhall in Bath.
Yr 10 Group
Prior to half term the Year 10 group complete their Adventure Residential Award and the Annual Skillforce Residential at the School’s excellent Bunk House in Tir-y-Cwm, South Wales. The boys were excited throughout; completing their D of E Bronze expedition in a mixture of weather conditions. The boys also all completed activities in caving and Gorge walking, which was scary, cold and very wet! Their attitude and behaviour was a credit to the School and SkillForce.
Well Done from the SkillForce Team – Ant, Dan, Alex, Jon & Natalie
Ex-Service personnel help youngsters develop.
Our Mission: is to deliver inspiring programmes that increase the number of young people entering education, employment and training on leaving school.
Our courses draw together vocational qualifications, community work and life skills in a classroom and outdoor activities based framework. Instruction & Mentoring is provided mainly by ex-armed forces personnel, who develop a close working relationship with individuals and instill a culture of respect and mutual support.
Skill Force delivers recognised qualifications and develops life skills. This produces Positive Outcomes for students, improved results for schools and untold benefits for the communities in which our people operate.
Skill Force’s approach is based upon respect and rapport. Our aim is to emphasise the importance of education, to foster ambition and aspiration and to increase the number of young people leaving statutory education with a positive destination in mind.
In this way Skill Force's curriculum supports the work already undertaken by teachers in schools, but uses different methods to achieve the same goals.
Skill Force provides a safe and unique environment in which students develop their social, emotional and communication skills. The programme, which normally takes place for 1 day per week of each academic term, and during the normal school day, engages students, challenging their perspectives and encouraging them to plan, complete and reflect upon their approach to a diverse range of activities.
Enthusiasm and interest is cultivated and the students’ commitment to learning is energised and followed through with on - going contact with the Skill Force team.
