Head of English
TLR 1A £9,378
The Head of English at Beechen Cliff is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, self-motivated teacher who has the drive and leadership skills to inspire a large team of dedicated teachers and a pre-dominantly able and motivated student body in this ‘Outstanding’ Bath school. We need a Head of English, starting September 2017, with a commitment to academic excellence and a focus to develop a love for English at all levels. Beechen Cliff Heads of Faculty have a significant degree of autonomy and operate within the school’s ‘can-do’ culture – as such the successful candidate will be encouraged to be creative, aspire to the unconventional and foster a ‘buzz’ both within and beyond the classroom. In addition, the Head of English will have to demonstrate the ability to deliver outstanding academic results through rigorous diagnosis of individual students’ strengths and weaknesses along with the implementation of targeted intervention programmes.
The school has a large mixed Sixth Form of more 400 students and the English Faculty has between 8 and 10 A Level teaching groups studying A level English Literature and A level English Literature and Language. The faculty also runs an excellent Accelerated Reading programme for Years 7 and 8. Whilst in recent years the English GCSE examination results have greatly improved we are looking for our new Head of English to build on this success and to further improve performance both at GCSE and A Level.
The School has a vibrant extra-curricular life which includes sport, music, debating and public speaking. A willingness to contribute will be a clear advantage. Further details are available on the website or from the Headmaster, Mr A Davies, to whom application should be made by application form and letter, by noon on Monday 13th March 2017. Interviews are currently planned to take place on Tuesday 21st March April 2017.
