Transition Events

June 2024: Primary school communication and visits

Ms Milland, Head of Year 7 Transition will be speaking to all primary school teachers and visiting as many of the primary schools as possible.

Saturday 15th June 2024: Cognitive Ability Assessments (CATs) and Reading Assessments

All pupils complete CATs before starting at Beechen Cliff. Information from these assessments, along with information from primary schools and SAT results, helps us to build an academic profile for each pupil to enable us to teach them most effectively from the start of Year 7. The tests are completed on computers and involve multiple choice questions. There is no need to revise for these tests as they are not based on prior learning and many pupils quite enjoy completing them.

Information about Cognitive Abilities Tests (CATs) and New Group Reading Tests (NGRT) can be found here.

In addition pupils will be also be completing an NGRT online reading assessment on the day.

Pupils should wear their primary school uniform. The assessment will take around 3 hours, which includes time for a break in the middle with refreshments and play time.
