Transition Events
June 2023: Primary school communication and visits
Ms Milland, Head of Year 7 Transition will be speaking to all primary school teachers and visiting as many of the primary schools as possible.
Saturday 17th June 2023: Cognitive Ability Assessments (CATs) and Reading Assessments
All pupils complete CATs before starting at Beechen Cliff. Information from these assessments, along with information from primary schools and SAT results, helps us to build an academic profile for each pupil to enable us to teach them most effectively from the start of Year 7. The tests are completed on computers and involve multiple choice questions. There is no need to revise for these tests as they are not based on prior learning and many pupils quite enjoy completing them.
Information about Cognitive Abilities Tests (CATs) and New Group Reading Tests (NGRT) can be found here.
In addition pupils will be also be completing an NGRT online reading assessment on the day.
For timings of the day, please refer to the ‘Letters to Parents Section’ below.
Pupils should wear their primary school uniform. The assessment will take around 3 hours, which includes time for a break in the middle with refreshments and play time.

All About Me
To help us get to know our new pupils we would like them to complete a short information sheet. This can be downloaded from the link below. Pupils should complete this over the summer holidays and bring this with them in September and hand it to their tutor on their first day of school in September.
