Named after the roads that lead to Beechen Cliff in order to signify our connection and commitment to the local community, we pride ourselves in having an overt and inclusive House System which values the contribution of each and every member; establishing a sense of belonging and identity across the different year groups. The system helps to engage all pupils and offers opportunities for developing and displaying talents, fun and competition, and developing character and leadership.
At Beechen Cliff all students are part of a House which is identified through their tutor group and their House coloured tie. Opportunities to represent the House are numerous and include being a House Council member, a Prefect, being part of a team in one of the many House competitions from creative to sporting challenges, working collaboratively in one of the charity events as well as in each and every lesson by generating positive acknowledgements that go towards both individual, tutor group and House rewards.
By totalling the points accumulated by all members of the House there are termly Rewards Weeks where the House winners where all members of the House receive certain privileges. The House with the most points at the end of each year has their House name engraved on the Rewards Board in the School Refectory.
Each House has a council which is led by the Senior House Prefects who are members of Year 13, and is attended by two elected representatives from each tutor group to ensure all pupils have an active say. The Senior House Prefects are supported in their duties by the Year 11 Prefects who play a leading role in House events.
Each House selects the charity they wish to support each year and organises events to fundraise as much as possible for that charity.
Each House meets together in an assembly once or twice each half term to help foster the House community and competetive spirit.
In 2023/24 each House has chosen their own House Charity, House Motto and House Song.
