Transition Events
June 2025: Primary school communication and visits
Ms Milland, Head of Year 7 Transition will be speaking to all primary school teachers and visiting as many of the primary schools as possible.
Saturday 14th June 2025: Cognitive Ability Assessments (CATs) and Reading Assessments
Pupils with surnames A-L should report to main reception at Beechen Cliff at 8.30am, finishing at 12pm.
Pupils with surnames M-Z should report to main reception at Beechen Cliff at 1pm, finishing at 4.30pm.
All pupils complete CATs before starting at Beechen Cliff. Information from these assessments, along with information from primary schools and SAT results, helps us to build an academic profile for each pupil to enable us to teach them most effectively from the start of Year 7. The tests are completed on computers and involve multiple choice questions. There is no need to revise for these tests as they are not based on prior learning and many pupils quite enjoy completing them.
In addition pupils will also be completing an ART online reading assessment on the day.
Information about Cognitive Abilities Tests (CATs) and Access Reading Tests (ART) can be found here.
Pupils should wear their primary school uniform. The assessment will take around 3 hours, which includes time for a break in the middle with refreshments and play time.

To support pupils in this process we offer a number of additional visit days which all pupils with additional learning needs are invited to.
